LG takes public outreach to Drass

KARGIL: On the third day of his Kargil tour, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) reached out to the people of Drass, holding a free-wheeling interaction with them and hearing their grievances,

The Lieutenant Governor, along with First Lady Neelam Mishra visited the Kargil War Memorial at Drass. LG laid a wreath and paid tribute to the brave hearts of the Indian Army who sacrificed their lives for the country in Operation Vijay during the Kargil War at the Kargil War Memorial.

He also met the troops of the Indian Army and interacted with them. He saluted the Bravehearts of the Indian Army for their valour, gallantry and patriotism and praised their spirit and supreme sacrifice.

The LG also visited the museum which tells the story of the Kargil War along with the Roll of Honour of all the bravery award winners from the Kargil War.

The LG addressed the citizens of Drass who had assembled in large number to meet him at the Dak Bungalow at Drass. He also interacted with the elected representatives and public of Drass. He asked the people of the Drass sub-division to encourage girls to go for higher studies, participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports to empower them, to improve their health and also to develop society.

“Empowerment of Ladakhi women and girls is one of my top priorities for their development and the improvement of their livelihood opportunities,” the LG said.

Terming Drass as one of the most beautiful areas in Ladakh, the LG appealed to the elected representatives to take responsibility and encourage the villagers to keep the area clean. He also informed about his plan to make Ladakh a ‘Corruption and Delay-Free’ UT and sought cooperation from the people of Ladakh to help achieve his dream.

He further informed about the orders issued by him to the Departmental Secretaries and Heads of Departments to meet public delegations thrice a week to resolve their issues.

The LG informed about his plan to promote tourism in different parts of Ladakh along with the promotion of homestays for better livelihood opportunities for the people of Ladakh. He also informed about his plan to initiate skill development programmes so that the Ladakhi youth can come up with their own start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures to become job providers instead of job seekers. He further asked the youth to avail the benefits of different central government schemes for livelihood opportunities.

The LG highlighted the issue of drug menace in society and informed about the initiative taken to establish Anti-Drug squads in schools to sensitise the youth to abstain themselves from indulging themselves in substance and alcohol abuse. Assuring to work for the development of the Drass sub-division, the LG stated that he plans to make Ladakh one of the best Union Territories in India.

He also planted a sapling on the World Environment Day organised by District Administration Kargil in collaboration with Kargil Forest Division and Government Degree College, Drass at the Dak Bungalow in Drass.

Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Shri Mubarak Shah Naqvi; Councillor, Bhimbet, Syed Mohd Shah; Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Santosh Sukhdeve; SSP Kargil, Anayat Ali Chaudhary and other district officials were present during the LG’s visit to these areas.

On Tuesday, the Lieutenant Governor also attended the Tribal Festival 2023 organised by the University Of Ladakh at its Kargil Campus.
