LEH: No student from the Ladakh union territory would be forced to travel Chandigarh or other outside cities for Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) examination being conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), assured Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh, Padma Angmo.
Angmo said this during a Facebook Live Question and Answer Session conducted on Wednesday, to resolve various quarries and issues being faced by students of Ladakh regarding CUET and PMUSP.
Students of Ladakh have been facing CUET centre change issue, and were asked to file their requests along with required details with NTA Zonal Coordinators for centre change.
Angmo said that the Zonal coordinator does not have authority to change the exam centre.
“Only NTA changes centre. Zonal coordinator only lists the requests, issues of students,” she replied to a query.
“So far, NTA has received list of 477 students who are having examination centre issues and NTA is working on this issue as an urgent and important matter,” said Angmo.
As Angmo was stating this, the National Testing Agency announced that it would accommodate the students of Ladakh within Ladakh itself.
“In response to the concerns raised by students from Ladakh who are facing examination centre issues, the National Testing Agency is pleased to announce to accommodate students from Ladakh in the CUET examination from 5th-11th June 2023 within Ladakh,” said a communication from NTA.
“So far, we have received 477 students who are having examination centre issues. NTA is working on this issue as an urgent and important matter. We understand the financial and emotional challenges that students from Ladakh have been facing due to the travel requirement associated with the examination,” it said.
We request the affected students from Ladakh to regularly check their admit cards online to know about the examination centers and schedule dates and related instructions, it added.
Earlier Angmo said that on May 30, final list of requests have been sent to NTA and most probably the students will get confirmation calls within couple of days, and added that May 31 was the last date and there would be no centre change if students miss the deadline.
Padma stressed upon the students to write to zonal coordinators immediately for centre change, and said that NTA is primarily calling Ladakh students who are in Chandīgarh.
“Despite having a total of over 65 lakh applications, NTA is taking Ladakhi students on priority. To avoid these problems in future,” Padma said, “two 400 seater Computer Based Exam Centre would be established in Leh and Kargil districts. And for the same work has been allotted to the executing agency.”
Regarding PMSSS wherein students mostly had registration, prefix code problem and online form filling issue, Padma Angmo said that Kashmir’s Hard Code is valid for Kargil and Jammu’s soft code is valid for Leh district students.
Regarding the registration, she told students to keep on trying on the portal, since PMSSS online portal will remain open for students till June 20.
She further informed that the PMSSS is going to hold workshop to listen and solve the issues of students in Leh and Kargil district in Mid-June.
All students should attend the said workshop since AICTE team will be present during the workshop, she concluded.
