Leh: iin: A delegation from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu, led by its Director, Prof BS Sahay, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Prof Sahay shared about their plan to set up an off-campus of IIM Jammu in Ladakh. They shared their plan to set up an Incubation, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre to introduce entrepreneurship orientation programmes for college students; provide career counselling to students and organise training and development programmes, etc. He informed about the seats available for ST students for various MBA, BBA, MBBS and BTech courses/programmes and the role they could play in facilitating the admission of students from Ladakh for these courses/programmes. He also informed about the Business Accelerator Programme specially designed for the existing SC-ST entrepreneurs and the wards (aspiring entrepreneurs) of SC-ST entrepreneurs, in which students from Ladakh took part in the three-month programme.
Prof Sahay informed that IIM Jammu will provide career counselling to students from Ladakh and encourage faculty belonging to the ST category to pursue PhD courses from IIM and IIT.
There was a detailed discussion on starting Business Accelerator Programme, developing Small Enterprise Development Unit (SEDU) along with potential collaboration between Department of Industries and Commerce and IIM Jammu on Entrepreneurship and Incubation Centre in Ladakh.
Stating that IIM is a reputed institution which will greatly benefit students and aspiring entrepreneurs from Ladakh in the long run, HLG stressed the need to promote skill development and entrepreneurship among the youth for livelihood opportunities. He asked Prof Sahay to start 2-year MBA courses/programmes for youth from Ladakh and provide courses on entrepreneurship and startup incubators. He stated that the collaboration between Administration and IIM Jammu will facilitate the admission of students from Ladakh to MBA courses, etc.
HLG instructed Commissioner Secretary, Shri Saugat Biswas to identify a temporary office space for IIM Jammu to set the ball rolling.
