Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have lodged two separate FIRs 65/2023 u/s 147, 323 IPC and 66/2023 u/s 147,323 against unknown medico students of GMC Jammu for clash over The Kerala Story in boys hostel which caused injuries to five students.
Meanwhile, Principal GMC Jammu Tuesday held a meeting with SP City North, SDPO, SHO Bakshi Nagar alongwith Warden of Boys Hostel and also constituted a disciplinary action committee headed by Dr. AS Bhatia on this matter.
Five students of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu got injured in a fight inside their hostel following arguments about The Kerala Story on Sunday night , taking the cognizance of the matter, the GMC administration rusticated 10 students from the hostel on Monday for a period of two months.The rusticated students include . Mir Wasim (final year student ), Taufeeq ( final year student), Dr. Sarmeed (Intern student), Dr. Sandeep SR, Dr. Tarun (PG Ortho), Dr. Jaipaul SR Radiologist GMC, Kathua (outsider) and others.
Officials said these students are also barred from attending classes until the completion of an inquiry into the matter. The inquiry will be completed within a week, the officials said.
Police said that on Sunday evening, some students uploaded scenes from the controversial film, The Kerala Story, on a WhatsApp study group and commented that it was “worth watching”. Others in the group disagreed, with some saying that the group was meant only for sharing study material. The WhatsApp argument soon snowballed into a physical fight, with two groups of students clashing in the hostel. According to police, outsiders were also involved.
Meanwhile sources said that to defuse the prevailing tension in the undergraduate and postgraduate hostels, the college administration has set up groups comprising senior heads of department and faculty members, along with the chief provost and wardens of the hostels. Two groups of seven members each have been tasked with visiting and interacting with the students in the undergraduate and postgraduate hostels between 8 pm and 10 pm daily for the next four days. They have also been asked to have dinner with the students, sources said.
