LEH: Three weeks after their military commanders met and agreed to a mutually acceptable solution to the remaining issues in eastern Ladakh, the officials from the Indian Army and Chinese People’s Liberation Army met on Tuesday.
The meeting which commenced on Tuesday morning was not a corps commander level, but between an Indian major general and his Chinese equivalent, reports said, quoting high-level defence sources.
In the meeting held at Daulat Beg Oldi or DBO, the Indian side is represented by Major General Prasanna Mishra, commanding officer of 3 Division in the area, the reports said, adding that the disengagement in Depsang and Demchok are at the centre of the discussions.
An official statement was awaited till the filing of this report.
On April 23, the 18th round of Corps Commander Level talks was held at the Chushul-Moldo meeting point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, with Fire and Fury Corps Commander Lt Gen Rashim Bali leading the Indian side, while the People’s Liberation Army was represented by an equivalent rank officer from the Chinese side.
In a statement issued the next day, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said the two sides had a “frank and in-depth” discussion on the resolution of the “relevant” issues along the Line of Actual Control in the Western sector.
“The two sides agreed to stay in close contact and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest,” the MEA had said.
