KARGIL: The distance from Leh to Padum will come down by 125 kilometers to only 175 kilometers, with the work on Nimmu Padum Darcha road expected to complete in next two years.
This was informed when Executive Councillor for Tourism, Rural Development and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil Er Punchok Tashi visited the worksite of Nimmu Padum Darcha road at Neraq Dett.
The Junior Engineer Civil 114 RCC Suman Kumar accompanied by other BRO Official and a local social worker Tashi Dorjay briefed the EC about the progress made in rock cutting so far and the future proposal to connect the remaining portion from Neraq to Chilling.
EC Tashi appreciated the officers, machine operator and labour for their sincere hard work and dedication in completing the assigned task as they have recently been able to complete the bridge at Neraq and rock formation cutting between Neraq to Kilima. After completion of this portion of road those traveling from Padum towards Leh need not to negotiate the steep slope before Lingshed.
It was Sunday even though 7 pork land excavator machines and 2 dozers were found working at site. With this quantum of speed, it is expected that the completion of the remaining 14 Km in the next couple of years after which the Leh-Padum distance will be around 175 km as on date, travelling and crossing through Singela, Sirsirla the distance from Leh to Padum is around 300 KM.
The logistic support and other information as well as encouragement provided from time to time to BRO by local social worker Tashi Dorjay, a retired SSB officer of village Neraq, has been appreciated by the EC.
The BRO official has also informed the bravery and dedication of one drilling machine operator namely Tsering Norbu of Zangla Zanskar with whose efforts they are accomplishing the task in the stipulated time frame and recommended for any sort of appreciation from civil administration .
The Executive Councilor also expressed gratitude on behalf of people of Zanskar to all those BRO Officials and labourers working in such a difficult terrain in NPD road and assured that they would be recommended to higher authority for suitable commendation.
