Maximise benefits for local farmers out of Agling milk pasteurisation plant: CEC Tashi

LEH: Asserting that sustainability should lie at the heart of the project, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Tashi Gyalson called for maximising the benefits to the local farmers out of the milk pasteurisation plant at Agling.

The CEC made these remarks as he visited and inspected the operationalisation of the plant at Agling. He was accompanied by Secretary Cooperative, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar.

The CEC was briefed by Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of Leh, Dr Mohammad Iqbal about the plant and challenges faced by the department after the installation of plant in 2011, while DRC Leh, Dr Mohammad Abass informed the dignitaries about the new machineries and utilities been purchased under SDP by Cooperative Department Leh.

“An MOU has been signed, in order to operationalize the milk plant smoothly wherein the NDDB will handhold the UT-Ladakh Dairy Cooperative Federation in extending technical Support,” it was informed.

Chairman UT-Ladakh Dairy Cooperative Federation, Dr. Abdul Qayom said that the federation is an apex structure  formed by joining of  newly registered village level  Dairy Cooperative Societies from Leh and Kargil District, together at UT level.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Cooperative, Ravinder Kumar said that the plant needs to be handled professionally for which the administrative department has taken up the survey for purchase of machinery and its installation and commissioning.

“The NBBD has been supporting the project for technical handholding for sustainable and successful functioning of the plant,” he added.

CEC Gyalson directed the concerned department to present a business model and functional structures in the best interests of the farmers of the District as major part of the infrastructural funding has been made through LAHDC.

“The main objectives of this Dairy Plant should focus on the sustainability of the plant and to benefit the local farmers and maximum benefits to local farmers including taking care of their other welfare needs,” the CEC directed.

Executive Councillor, Cooperative, Stanzin Chosphel; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Additional Registrar Cooperative; Moses Kunzang, Chief Planning Officer, Tsewang Gyaltson. Ladakh Dairy Cooperative Federation headed by Chairman Dr Abdul Qayom and Joint Secretary  Sonam Odpal, other officers from Animal Husbandry and Cooperative were also present.

Meanwhile, the CEC also convened a meeting to discuss the strengthening of Tourism related infrastructure at various locations in Leh District.

The primary focus of the meeting was the development of Hot Springs, an official spokesperson said.
Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sangdup; Councillor Korzok, Karma Namdak; Councillor Kungyam, Thinles Nurboo; SE PMGSY Leh,  AD Tourism Leh, and officials of LDA attended the meeting, he added.
