Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and First Lady, Smt Neelam Mishra inaugurated the stalls of Ladakh Haat in the presence of the Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs, Government of India, Meeta Rajivlochan, on Day 1 of the Youth 20 Pre-Summit being held in Leh under the aegis of G20 Summit. Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson and Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal were also present during the inauguration.
LG inspected the stall and interacted with the artisans from Leh and Kargil. He inquired about the various products showcased by the artisans and appreciated them for their initiatives. He also met delegates from G20 nations and interacted with them.
Ladakh Haat, an initiative of the Department of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, is a specially-curated exhibition-cum-fair where 48 artisans will showcase the rich culture and traditions of Ladakh in the field of handicrafts, handlooms and processed food products. There are around 17 stalls dedicated to 40 artisans to showcase their products. Two rebo (tents used by the nomads) have been set up for the event where live demonstrations of the traditional crafts of the region will be performed for the guests.
The objective of Ladakh Haat is to promote Ladakh’s indigenous pashmina, sea buckthorn and apricot under the One District One Product initiative.
Delegates from G20 nations; Advisor, Umang Narula; His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche; Executive Councillors and Councillors from LAHDC Leh, representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs); officials from GoI; Departmental Secretaries; representatives from religious and political organisations; officials from different departments and artisans were present during the inauguration.
