Srinagar: For the third time in the last month, Jammu and Kashmir’s police have busted a prostitution racket in the valley.
On Tuesday, a racket involved in immoral trafficking came to the limelight in Handwara after the Police received information that such activities are being operated by individuals in the Reshipora area.
Following the inputs, Police Station Handwara came into action and arrested five people. The racket was busted by Police Station Handwara.
In a statement, police said, “Today on April 25, 2023, information was received from reliable sources about a racket of immoral activities operating from the house of an individual in Reshipora. Accordingly, a search party conducted a raid in the house of Shabir Ahmad War, S/o Ghulam Ahmad War, R/o Reshipora, where a sex racket was busted”.
Five persons were arrested from the spot, including the house owner and his wife, one sex worker and two customers. Cash amounting to Rs 47,800/- was also recovered from the spot, police said.
Those who were detained include Rayees Ah Lone, s/o Khazir Mohd Lone, R/o Dangerpora, Rafiabad. Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, s/o Abdul Rehman Sheikh, R/o Binner, Baramulla. A female sex worker (name withheld). Shabir Ahmad War, s/o Gh Ahmad War, r/o Rishipora Kralgund (house owner) and wife of the house owner (name withheld)
An FIR No. 37/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Kralgund and an investigation initiated, police said.
Earlier this month, a sex racket was busted by Srinagar Police in the Bagh-e-Mehtab area of the city. During the investigation, four sex workers and two customers (all 6 are locals of Srinagar) were detained for questioning. A week later, Srinagar Police busted a prostitution racket in the Nowgam area.
The action followed the investigation of a recently unearthed prostitution racket at Bagh-e-Mehtab. Three people were arrested on the spot, including one woman who was found to be involved in the racket.
