Kargil: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) visited the District Hospital in Kargil to check the condition of the boys who were critically injured after the explosion of a live bomb. One boy succumbed to his injuries whereas another boy is out of danger. The third boy is still in critical condition.
As per reports, three boys were on their way to the Astroturf Football Ground at Kurbathang when they came across the blind bomb from the Kargil War. The bomb exploded when the boys went near it, causing serious injuries to them.
On hearing the news, HLG immediately rushed to the district hospital to check the condition of the boys and held an emergency meeting with the concerned officials.
Terming the event as unfortunate, HLG offered his condolences to the family of the boy who succumbed to his injury. Stating that the loss is irreparable, he announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased boy. He also announced Rs 1 lakh each to the injured boys.
Stating that the blind bombs should have been destroyed earlier, HLG informed about the plans to diffuse and destroy blinds and other such dangerous ammunition from Kargil and other parts of Ladakh at the earliest in a time-bound manner so that such tragedies do not occur in the future. He also informed that one of the boys is out of danger whereas the third boy is still undergoing treatment.
Assuring to look into the issue of shortage of doctors and ambulances at the District Hospital in Kargil, HLG informed about necessary steps being taken to procure and install a new CT Scan machine at the Hospital at the earliest. He informed his plans to make Ladakh a ‘Corruption and Delay-Free’ region and stated that top priority would be given to providing the best education and health facilities for the people of Ladakh.
HLG also visited the site near the Astroturf Football Stadium where the incident took place and instructed the concerned officials from the Army to take necessary steps to remove the blind bombs and dangerous ammunition from the area at the earliest.
Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Shri Feroz Ahmed Khan was also present during HLG’s visit to the District Hospital.
