Leh: The research activities at National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) will get a major boost as Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India has given approval for the creation of 45 new posts for the institute on various levels.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Padma Gurmet, Director NISR, informed that creation of 45 new posts was a historic occasion for Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine, in general, and particularly National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa. “Out of 45 santioned posts, 18 posts are Sowa-Rigpa group (A) posts of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Medical Officer, four posts are of modern Allopathic Doctors and one Research Officer for herbal garden and rest of the posts are other administrative and technical posts,” he elaborated.
Dr Gurmet said, “The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa has been conducting research activities on Sowa¬Rigpa literatures, formulations, disease, demographic study and medicinal plants survey, documentation and conservation etc. From the academic year 2021-22 this Institute has started 5 years 6 months Bachelor of Sowa-Rigpa Medicine and Surgery (BSRMS) course under the affiliation of University of Ladakh,” and added that the creation of permanent posts will boost the research, education and public health delivery by the Institute.
He further informed that students from different parts of India were selected for the first batch through NEET test conducted by the National Commission for Indian Systems Medicine, New Delhi. “The course is also formally incorporated into the section 22 of UGC Act,” he said.
The NISR Director informed that the Institute had been formally registered under Societies registration Act. of Union Territory of Ladakh on 13 April 2020 and started functioning from October 2020 by converting the existing National Research Institute for Sowa-Rigpa wider the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences along with existing infrastructure and manpower. Since then, this Institute had been pursuing for creation of permanent posts for the Institute, he said.
He further said that the aim of the Institute was to conduct standard education in Sowa-Rigpa, scientific research and health care at the highest level. The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh has allotted a land measuring 120 Kanal at Saboo Thang area of Leh for construction of additional infrastructure, he added.
Meanwhile, the staff and students of National Institute of Sowa Rigpa expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, MoS Ayush Dr. Munjapara Mahendarabhai, senior officers of Ministry of Ayush and Department of Expenditure and all individuals who have helped for creation of post.
