Leh: With a shade over 28 ambulances for every one lakh of its population, Ladakh is placed at number three among the union territories of the country, without legislature.
This achievement that has come in only three years of Ladakh’s reorganization into a union territory stands as a fine testimony to the efforts made by the administration in strengthening health infrastructure and services in the region.
Ladakh has a total of 77 ambulances which averages out to 28.10 ambulances per lakh of its population, as per the data available at Vahaan portal of Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways (MoRTH), government of India.
Among the total number of 77 ambulances; one is animal ambulance, 70 are Lung Protective Ventilation (LPV), one is Multiple Patient Vehicle (MPV), and 5 LGV ambulances.
Kargil district has 30 human and 1 animal ambulances of these 77 ambulances. These include 26 LPV and 4 LGV ambulances.
Similarly, in Leh district, a total of 46 ambulances are operational including 44 LPV, one MPV and 1 LGV.
While Ladakh is lagging behind with a mere margin from other UTs among which Andaman and Nicobar has 31 ambulances for every one lakh of its population, Daman and Diu has 29 ambulances for every one lakh of its population.
With respect to UTs with legislature, as per the Vahaan portal, Pondicherry is at the top with 49 ambulances for every one lakh of its population, followed by New Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir having 21, 12 and 7 ambulances for every one lakh of its population, respectively.
