Kargil: The District administration Kargil has decided to launch a mass sterilisation drive for dogs in the district, even as a committee will also be constituted to deal with the issue.
This was decided as Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve on Thursday chaired a meeting in his officer chamber to discuss stray dog menace in the district.
During the meeting, DC Santosh took a detailed assessment of the issue with regard to the population of dogs and dog bite cases in the district.
Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to constitute a committee and meticulously deal with the issue in accordance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Santosh also directed to do the sterilization of dogs across the district.
He also directed the concerned officers at block level to discuss with PRI members to convince people to act as volunteers in the movement. DC Kargil also reflected that an animal shelter should be established in the district.
SSP Kargil, ADC Kargil, ACD Kargil, CMO Kargil, SDM Sankoo, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Executive Officer, MC Kargil and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Sukhadeve also chaired the meeting of the District Rent Assessment Committee (DRAC) in his office chamber and approved 41 rent assessment cases of different departments.
SSP Kargil, Inayat Ali Choudhary, Superintending Engineer PWD Kargil, Abdul Mutalib, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil, Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil, AD Fisheries Kargil, Exen R&B Kargil, AO to DC Kargil and heads of other concerned departments attended the meeting.
The rent cases pertaining to Social Welfare Department, Handicraft, FCS&CA, Education, Agriculture, Fisheries, Police and other departments were approved by the committee.
The committee also discussed the fixation of rent of various structures in which various government offices function across the district.
A total of 41 rent assessment cases were put up for discussion and all the cases were approved by the committee in presence of all departmental heads.
During the meeting, DC Kargil directed the concerned authorities to ensure that Government buildings are prioritized for official accommodation and rented buildings remain the last option.
He asked the officers to pay rent to the concerned owners of land and structures on time and ensure safety of the Government and rented property.
