LEH: In a major development, the union government has given its nod to the Korzok-Kiato road, which will provide all-weather connectivity to the Ladakh region from Spiti in Himachal Pradesh without any pass or tunnel.

The union government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the first 20 kilometres of Karzok-Nurbo-Sumdo road in the annual works plan of Border Road Organisation for the financial year 2023-24 funded by the Ministry of Defence, officials informed.

The remaining part, that is the road from Nurbo-Sumdo to Kiato Spiti will be included in long term plan 2023-28 of Border Road Organisation under funding of the Ministry of Home Affairs, they said.

Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Ladakh, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the approval.

“On behalf of the people of Ladakh and Spiti, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for accepting our demand to construct a road between Korzok to Kiato to connect Ladakh and Spiti valley,” said the MP.

This decision shows the commitment of Modi Sarkar towards the development of the far-flung and remotest corners of our country, and it reflects the pure intention of the Modi Sarkar to deliver development to all sections of society, he added..

This new road will provide all-weather connectivity to the Ladakh region from Himachal Pradesh, without crossing any pass or requiring a single tunnel. This is a significant achievement, as it will not only boost the economy of both Spiti and Ladakh through trade and tourism but also provide a shorter and safer connectivity for our border security, Namgyal said.

He said that the people of Ladakh and Spiti have been eagerly waiting for this road for a long time.

“This decision of Modi government to accept our demand has brought a new ray of hope and happiness in our lives,” the MP said, adding that Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ has once again been demonstrated by his swift and positive action on this issue.
