Kargil: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra inaugurated the 3rd Ladakh Literary Conference organised by Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL), Kargil at the Auditorium Hall in Kargil.

HLG thanked Hill Council Kargil for inviting him to the Conference and stated that the Conference shows the progressive nature of the people of Kargil towards the promotion of art and literature. He also expressed his happiness over the participation of artists from different backgrounds from different parts of Ladakh.

Calling cultural revival and literary awareness as important, HLG highlighted the importance of interaction for cultural revival and emphasised the need for keeping oneself rooted in one’s culture and literature and also taking progressive steps in these regards. He emphasised the need for the youth of the country to be aware of their identity, literature, culture and legacy left behind by their ancestors. HLG stated that the youth will lose their root and identity if concrete steps are not taken for the preservation of the culture and literature for the upcoming generations.

HLG stated that the purpose of organising the two-day Literary Conference is to highlight the importance of celebrating and reminiscing one’s cultural and literary roots. He also advised the youth from Ladakh to stay true to one’s roots. The major challenge is to keep the younger generation to one’s roots and impress upon them not to forget their roots with the passage of time. He wished for the success of the literary conference and commended the organisers for providing a platform to schools from different cultures and backgrounds for interaction to foster better understanding and mutual cooperation between them.

Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Shri Feroz Ahmed Khan, expressed gratitude to the HLG for taking part in the event. He raised the need for increasing the manpower along with appointing experts on vernacular languages in the Academy. He thanked writers from Leh for attending the two-day event.

Earlier, the Director of the University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, Dr. Kaneez Fatima welcomed the guests. Issa Sabri presented his paper on ‘the development of Purgi language and script’ followed by the paper presentation by Ven Thupstan Paldan on ‘Ladakhi language and literature-an insight.’
