Kargil:  Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) B D Mishra arrived in Kargil district on his maiden visit, a month after assuming the charge of the top constitutional post of the union territory and chaired a slew of review meetings with the administrative functionaries on Sunday.

Mishra, who took oath as Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on February 19, arrived here on a two day visit this morning. Chairperson and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan received accorded a warm welcome to the LG upon his arrival. Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhdeve and District Police Chief Anayat Ali Chowdhary, besides other senior officials were present.

The LG was presented Guard of Honour by Kargil police, before he started the day full of meetings with government officials, as well as people of Kargil.

An official informed The Earth News that during his two-day-long visit, LG Mishra is scheduled to interact with the officers and take a review of the administrative functioning.

“Lieutenant Governor will be interacting with the officials of various departments over the next two days, particularly the police, health, and education. The meetings will largely focus around obtaining a first-hand information about the performance and public care by these institutions,” they said.

While there was no official handout released by Raj Bhavan till late Sunday night, the officials informed that LG held a couple of meetings and reviewed the steps being taken by the officials to serve the public, while stressing for ensuring utmost dedication and honesty in doing the public service.

The officials informed The Earth News that a delegation of people from Bhimbet in Drass had an audience with LG Mishra and raised a number of issues before him.

The delegation expressed its objections to the transfer of 5.69 lakh kanal of land to defense authorities for carrying out artillery practice for a period of five years.

They also demanded construction of a rope way with allied infrastructure at Lhamochan, besides establishment of J&K bank with ATM facilities and posting of specialist doctors at NTPHC Bhimbet.

Syed Mohammad Shah, Councilor of Bhimbet confirmed the meeting with the LG.

“We placed before him some of the pressing issues of Drass and Bhimbet constituency in particular for his kind consideration. He has assured to address the issues on priority, we are hopeful by his assurance,” said Shah.

On his second day in Kargil, LG Mishra will inaugurate the Ladakh Literary Conference.

The two-day conference will witness participation of writers and poets from Leh and Kargil, even as representatives from social and religious organizations, public representatives and Councillors in LAHDC Kargil are also expected at the event.
