Gurugram, Mar 10 (PTI) Ramesh Agarwal, father of OYO Founder Ritesh Agarwal, died on Friday after falling off a high-rise building, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Virender Vij said DLF security personnel at Crest housing complex in sector-54 reported at 1 pm that a person had fallen off the 20th floor and has been taken to Paras Hospital.
The Sector 53 station house officer and other policemen then arrived at the scene. Police said they recorded the statement of a family member.
In a statement, Ritesh Agarwal said the death was a tremendous loss to his family.
“With a heavy heart, my family and I would like to share that our guiding light and strength, my father, Ramesh Agarwal passed away on 10 March. He lived a full life and inspired me and so many of us, every single day,” the founder of the hospitality platform said.
“His death is a tremendous loss for our family. My father’s compassion and warmth saw us through our toughest times and carried us forward. His words will resonate deep in our hearts. We request everyone to respect our privacy in this time of grief,” Agarwal said.
An inquest was carried out under the Criminal Procedure Code’s section 174, which deals with death under unnatural circumstances.
An officer said police are also investigating if Ramesh Agarwal suffered from depression.
The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
Earlier this week, 29-year-old Agarwal tied the knot with Geetansha Sood, the director of Farmation Ventures Private Limited, and hosted a grand reception in the national capital.
The reception was attended by SoftBank Group Founder Masayoshi Son, among others.
OYO is a leading hospitality technology platform.
