Leh, Jan 16: Deputy Commissioner, Leh/ Chairperson, District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC), Shrikant Suse, chaired the 2nd DLAC meeting of Safe Food and Healthy Diet.

The meeting was attended by the concerned members of DLAC, including Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Chief Education Officer, Leh; Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Leh; Assistant Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Leh; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh; District Program Officer, ICDS, Leh; General Manager, District Industries Centre, Leh and other concerned officers/officials of Food Safety, Leh.

At the outset, the DLAC members were apprised in detail about the action taken report of the 1st DLAC meeting, such as Eat Right School Initiative; Awareness regarding food fortification and millets to the ANMs and ASHAs; Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) of Food Business Operators; Licensing, Registration, Sampling, and Testing; IEC activities; Consumer Awareness and Consumer Grievances, etc.

Addressing the meeting, DC Leh/Chairperson, DLAC, instructed to ensure that all the schools in the district are included in the Eat Right School Initiative. He stressed the need for intensive IEC activities regarding food safety, food fortifications. Adding that the year 2023 is declared as the ‘International Year of Millets’, DC Leh directed the concerned departmental officers to promote and raise awareness about the importance of millets.

DC Leh instructed the Food Safety Department to conduct an extensive inspection drive against hygiene, the sale of unhealthy, sub-standard, expired food products/items in the markets, and proper documents and to conduct the same at the sub-divisional levels at regular intervals as well.
