Leh: Regional Research Station, Leh, ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute observed “National Farmer’s day” at its campus in Stakna village.
Dr Dorjay Namgyal, ADR HMAARI, SKUAST-K, Leh, presided as the chief guest of the program. Staff of CAZRI RRS-Leh, including Er. Changchuk Lamo (Scientist), Mr. Jigmat Stanzin (ACTO), Yogendra Singh (T-3), Rigzin Dorje (Sr. Technician), Mr. Mohd Raza (Sr. Technician) and Bhuvnesh Verma (Sr. Clerk) were present and the programme was attended by farmers of Stakna and Shang villages.
At the beginning of the program, Mr Jigmat Stanzin (ACTO) welcomed the chief guest and all the participants to the program, and Er. Changchuk Lamo (Scientist) formally welcomed the chief guest by presenting him a Khataks.
Then, Er. Changchuk Lamo addressed the gathering by highlighting the importance of celebrating Farmers day, its history and relevance in context of today’s world. She highlighted that the job of a farmer is the hardest, while their role is less appreciated. Days like these are celebrated to acknowledge their role in the society and told that the farmers are the ultimate contributor to national economy.
Then, the chief guest of the program Dr. Dorjay Namgyal delivered his address highlighting the different role of farmers being played in Ladakh scenario. He said that the agriculture practices that are being followed and transferred from generations to generations in Ladakh are not something written elsewhere.
And these knowledges are the treasure of farmers and farming system of Cold desert. He praised the farmers as the backbone of the society. The participants also interacted and shared their views over the state of farmers in Ladakhi society.
At the end of the program Mr. Rigzin Dorjay presented the vote of thanks.
