Leh: A total of ten families residing in Changmar, a remote village in Nubra sub-division close to border, had a reason to celebrate on November 28 as they got electricity connection for the first time. Their lives will be transformed to a great extent with this much needed amenity.

The families expressed gratitude to UT administration, Member Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, CEC Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson, PDD Secretary Ravinder Kumar, local councilor and other concerned authorities for fulfilling their long pending. Better late than never, but the task of electrifying this remotely located village was not an easy one.

Dongbolas is another such village in Nubra which also got electrified along with Changmar. The efforts of the Ladakh UT administration in electrifying border villages are laudable as lot of efforts are required to transport equipment to villages located at high altitude locations.

Secretary PDD, Ravinder Kumar informed that work on electrification of villages was going on at face pace. He said, “All the villages in Kargil have been charged under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and only two habitations namely Hunder Dok and Rongjuk are left uncovered due to some reasons but the work would be completed soon.

Similarly, 40 habitations in 20 villages were identified for electrification under PMDP Rural wherein works have been taken up and completed swiftly barring few habitations where either the work is going on or stalled due to wildlife issues,” he further said.

He maintained that terrains were difficult in Ladakh owing to which it was difficult to transport material and equipment but still work going on at fast pace to achieve the target of 100 percent electrification of all the habitations.
