Leh: A town hall programme regarding the Nationwide Intensive Awareness Programme (NIAP) in Leh, was conducted by the State Bank of India, Leh in collaboration with all the other banks today. The programme was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Sonam Chosjor.

Nationwide Intensive Awareness Programme is an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to enhance public awareness of Financial Customer Rights, Internal Grievance Redress, and the Alternate Grievance Redress Mechanism of RBI.

Convenor, UTLBC, Ladakh, Tsering Motup; Zonal Head J7K Bank, UT Ladakh, Dorjey Angchuk; Lead District Manager, Leh, Tsering Wangmo; Branch Managers of all the Banks besides customers of different banks attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Leh, Sonam Chosjor stressed that intensive awareness among the public, by all the banks, regarding the Internal Grievance Redressal Mechanism and Banking Ombudsman is essential to ensure its utility and usage by the aggrieved customers. He added that awareness programmes focusing on digital transactions should be held especially in rural areas.

ADC Leh urged to remain vigilant while initiating digital transactions and also stressed maintaining customer-friendly behaviour in all the banks.

SBI Manager, Simranjeet Negi briefed on the significance of the Nationwide Intensive Awareness Programme and the functioning of the Internal Redressal Mechanism of the RBI Ombudsman Scheme. He also spoke about the different cases of financial fraud and advised the customers to be wary of any fake, misleading calls and click baits on emails. He urged the participants not to share their banking details and OTPs.

Earlier, LDM Leh, Tsering Wangmo highlighted the awareness camps conducted by different bank branches of Leh district. She also gave a vote of thanks in the end.
