Leh, November 28: The Commissioner/Secretary, PHE (Jal Shakti), Ajeet Kumar Sahu, chaired a meeting to review the progress of works of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Ladakh, at the Civil Secretariat, Leh today.
In the meeting, the Commissioner/Secretary impressed upon the officials to ensure safe tap water supply of prescribed quality for handwashing, and in toilets/ urinals in schools, Anganwadi Centres, Gram Panchayats, and Community Health Centres across villages in Ladakh on a priority basis. The availability of safe tap water supply including hot water during winter through solar-powered heaters to children in schools and Anganwadi Centres will not only contribute to their better health, but also improve sanitation, and hygiene. Under this campaign, tap water supply will be provided for drinking and cooking mid-day meals, in schools and Anganwadi centres.
In the meeting disposal of grievances lodged on the Jal Jeevan Mission grievance redressal portal was also reviewed and addressed. The Commissioner/Secretary directed officials to ensure the disposal of grievances within 7 days of receipt for better accountability and efficiency. Further, Sahu discussed the proposal for training to be provided to the daily wagers in Plumbing, Pump operation, and electrical work from the Quality Council of India to develop their capacity in the Operation and Maintenance of JJM schemes. Discussions also took place on installing state-quality monitors, to monitor all the works of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Ladakh. A brainstorming session will be soon organised in both districts for a mid-term review of the implementation of the schemes where all departmental officers shall participate. Discussions also took place on expediting the social audit and physical verification system. Social audit has been started in whole of the district where all villagers will assemble in special Gram Sabha to discuss the implementation of the scheme and its sustainability. All physical and financial details are being laid before Gram Sabha for public scrutiny.
UT Administration is also creating an online portal for the Operation and Maintenance of JJM schemes.
