NCORD Committee reviews measures for eradication of Drug menace in Rajouri

RAJOURI, NOVEMBER 22: The meeting of Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) today discussed the measures taken at different levels for eradication of Drug menace in Rajouri District here at its meeting chaired by District Magistrate Vikas Kundal.

 The DC took detailed review of efforts being put in by the stakeholder departments in their domain of working against the perpetrators of the drug abuse and rehabilitation and treatment of Drug users.

The meeting was attended by SSP, Mohammad Aslam; Principal GMC, Dr Amarjeet Singh; ADC Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh; ADC Nowshera, Kartar Singh; ADC Koteranka, Surinder Mohan Sharma; ADC Sunderbani, Vinod Kumar; ADC Kalakote, Krishnan Lal; ACR, Imran Rashid Kataria; CMO, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar; CEO Education, Shailesh Kumari; DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt, and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

At the outset, the District Social Welfare Officer Rajouri informed  that a comprehensive activity plan has been formulated to educate the target group about the harmful effects of drugs and to channelise the  energy of the youth in a positive direction. He said that hosting of awareness and informative activities have been made a regular feature.

Referring to the recently concluded Back to the Village Phase 4 program, he said during the course of the event a series of activities like awareness rallies, symposiums, art competitions and  special pledge-taking ceremonies were organised in the educational institutions and in the presence of visiting officers.

Discussing the eradication measures, the DM urged   the departments to devise a multi-pronged strategy to identify addicts, their rehabilitation and counseling and launch sustained awareness campaigns to fight this menace. He also emphasized on the importance of identification and conviction of the perpetrators and drug traffickers.

“There is a need to spread awareness through seminars, holding pledge-taking ceremonies, capacity building programs, organizing sports activities, and other activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district so that the target group can be sensitized about the harmful effects of drugs on the body,’’ said DM.

The DM also directed the District Youth and Sports Officer to organize a volleyball tournament under Nasha Mukt Bharat.

The members of the NCORD were asked to redouble their efforts to combat drug abuse and ensure better coordination among departments.

The District Magistrate also reviewed the functioning of the drug De-Addiction centre and ordered a Committee to look after its functioning and ensure its efficient working.

SSP, Mohammad Aslam, the convener of the committee, presented the latest a resume on the activities taken up in the district by the intending departments. He informed that the district Police has enhanced vigil and strengthened surveillance mechanism to keep a strict vigil on drug trafficking in the district. He further informed them that the cooperation of all stakeholders is required to curb this menace.
