Leh Oct 21 :- The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, attended the National Police Commemoration Day 2022 at District Police Lines, Choglamsar, as the chief guest today. Advisor Umang Narula; Additional Director General of Police (ADFP), SS Khandare; Commissioner/Secretary, Ajeet Kumar Sahu; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jigmet Takpa; Secretary Ravinder Kumar; DIG Ladakh Police, Sheikh Junaid; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse; Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Leh, PD Nitya; police officials and family members of martyrs were present in the event.
Terming the occasion as solemn, LG Mathur paid respect and remembered the sacrifices of all the police personnel who laid down their lives in different situations while serving the people of the country. He said October 21 has a special significance for Ladakh as it was on this day that ten police personnel out of 20 led by DSP Karam Singh from ITBF sacrificed their lives while defending the country from the Chinese attack at the hot spring near Chushul. The incident, he said, enraged the entire country and their sacrifices are still remembered through National Police Commemoration Day.
Stating that the entire police force is working selflessly for the safety of the country, LG Mathur remembered the five policemen from Ladakh who sacrificed their lives while fighting the terrorist in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the Police play a crucial role in controlling law and order for the overall development of the country and serve the people tirelessly round the clock. He further stated that the 112 emergency helpline number launched by Ladakh Police benefits the public, helps in maintaining law and order and crime and in mitigating natural disasters.
Calling Ladakh Police the ‘youngest police force’ in the country, LG Mathur stated that Ladakh Police is a fully independent force in terms of manpower. He highlighted trainings are being provided to personnel of Ladakh Police to fight all kinds of crimes, including new-age crimes such as cyber-crime. He stated that civilians are also being trained by Ladakh Police to prepare for natural disasters.
LG Mathur informed about steps being taken to strengthen Ladakh Police, including the recent recruitment of 266 constables, so that they can serve the people of Ladakh. He also highlighted the noteworthy work of Ladakh police’s Tourist Wing.
LG Mathur laid wreath at the Police Martyrs Memorial and interacted with the family members of the martyrs- late Sub-Inspector Stanzin Nurboo, late Assistant Sub-Inspector Sonam Dorjey; late Constable Ghulam Abass and Late Constable Shabir Hussain. A blood donation camp was also organised by Ladakh Police during the event.
