New Delhi Sep 05 :- India will seek to further expand defence and strategic ties with Mongolia and Japan during defence minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to the two countries this week.
Singh will be in Mongolia from September 5 to 7 to hold talks with his counterpart Lt General Saikhanbayar, in what will be the first-ever visit by an Indian defence minister to Mongolia. “They will review the bilateral defence cooperation and explore new initiatives to further strengthen engagements. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest. The two democracies have a common interest in fostering peace and prosperity in the entire region,” an official said on Sunday.
In Japan on September 8-9, Singh will join foreign minister S Jaishankar for the ‘two-plus-two’ defence and foreign ministerial dialogue with their counterparts Yasukazu Hamada and Yoshimasa Hayashi. The ‘two-plus-two’ dialogue will see New Delhi and Tokyo discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in defence and security as well as take stock of the developments in the Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China’s continuing belligerence in the region.
