Srinagar, August 20 :- J&K’s anti corruption bureau on Saturday arrested a civic body official while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Srinagar district.
Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, Ward Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation was arrested by a trap team of ACB.
ACB said they received a written complaint alleging therein that Ward Officer Hawal, Srinagar was demanding Rs 50,000 as a bribe for allowing construction in favour of the complainant.
“The complainant requested to the ward officer and pleaded for justice, who however remained adamant on his demand of bribe. He had asked the complainant to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 as first installment. However, before paying the bribe amount to the accused person, the complainant approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law,” a statement issued by ACB said.
Accordingly a case was registered with this Bureau and investigation was taken up
“During the course of investigation a trap team caught the accused public servant red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 20,000. He was arrested on the spot,” the statement said, adding that further investigation into the case is on going.
