National Film Festival in J&K kindles hope of Bollywood revival

After the abrogation of special status and Article 370, the Union Territory of J&K (erstwhile J&K State) has ushered in a new era of peace and prosperity. The LG led administration has been on a continues spree to bring about a paradigm change in all the spheres of life.

The LG has taken several remarkable initiatives across the length and breadth of the J&K to rejuvenate the dwindling economic landscape and after J&K’s Film Policy 2021, which made Bollywood’s step possible in the region especially in Kashmir again, it has added adding another feather in its cap by hosting first ever National Film Festival from June 15-20.

The holding of this festival will prove out to be a major boon for scenic places of J&K and the present dispensation deserves an applaud for such a sincere effort to revive the shooting of films and videos of albums. The meticulously drafted Film Policy 2021 offers lucrative business packages to the film producers.

The first ever National Film Festival is organized by Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council in collaboration with National Film Development Corporation and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

A Film Festival, at this juncture is believed to have an ideal celebration to get the eyes of the filming community, enthusiasts from across the world onto the stunning imagery of J&K as a creative hub for filmmakers all over and highlight breathtaking world-class film shooting locations such as Patnitop, Sanasar, Bani, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Gurez Valley, Bhaderwah and many more. Most importantly, this aimed to re-infuse vigor in the local youth and general public in J&K to view the Film & Music industry as a dream-building platform.

Notably, a National Film and Music Awards Ceremony will also be held as part of the Film Festival, where over 40+ awards across three major categories of Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Music Videos are proposed to be given to exemplary talent in the Film and Music Industry.

And it’ll be a first of its’ kind of a grand scale to be hosted in Jammu and Kashmir.

Film Screenings of 40+ movies from among some of industry’s best films are scheduled to be screened in 20 different theatres across Jammu and Kashmir.

Apart from this, master classes and workshops directed by film and music industry veterans will provide a unique opportunity for J&K’s film enthusiasts to learn from and interact with the industry’s best will be another bonanza for local film industry.

Moreover informal panel conferences featuring accomplished film industry veterans in conversation with the general public are also to be held in various scenic filming locations across Jammu and Kashmir.

The festivity will not only be restricted to films but it will showcase a glimpse of the natural and social-cultural beauty that Jammu and Kashmir has been blessed with, to rest of India and the world, the film festival will also serve as an exhibition for local, priceless handicrafts from J&K and authentic local cuisine from J&K to be relished by film, music enthusiasts and other visitors to the festival, from across the world.

Hence, as concerned authorities aspire to establish the J&K Film Festival as an iconic 5-day event to enable the film-making community and general public to be a part of building a celebratory narrative of films in the state of J&K,

According to officials, Indian filmmakers and music producers, artists are invited to submit their original films – fiction, documentary, OTT Films or shorts and Music Videos for a chance to win numerous awards, cash prizes and trophies in the Awards Ceremony.

Believe it or not after the formal launch of the film policy-2021 for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by the government, producers are making a beeline to shoot the scenic splendor of the locales of Jammu and Kashmir.

As the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has always had a memorable tryst with films and filmmaking, film enthusiasts and other creative individuals of all kind and to give impetus to this very sector, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken up ‘Film Sector’ as a priority industry and has recently unveiled the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy -2021’.

Since the launch of the policy, in just 6 months, over 120 applications have been successfully processed and 118 permissions were granted for shooting films in the Union Territory.
