Srinagar Jun 02 :- Security has been further enhanced and searches intensified across the Kashmir Valley, especially in the south Kashmir, following a series of targeted killings in district kulgam.

Officials said multiple security review meetings have been held and the number of security forces deployed around key installations such as in south Kashmir has been increased. “These types of attacks obviously attract a greater security response. We have intensified the measures in type and number wherever we thought necessary,” said an official,

Multiple checkpoints and roadblocks have been erected across valley. “The security is very stringent, and searches have intensified. Security forces parties have been patrolling in larger numbers and also there are sudden searches of vehicles…,” said Bilal Ahmad, a south Kashmir resident.

A resident from Kulgam said the attacks have suddenly changed the district’s atmosphere. “There is an uneasy silence. Fewer people prefer to move out fearing the deterioration of the situation.”

Notably, Home Minister Amit Shah while taking serious note of current situation in valley has sought an explanation over security lapses from the Union Territory’s Lieutenant Governor.

On Wednesday Shah called Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to Delhi for a briefing on the ground situation. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also attend the meeting.

“A meeting is scheduled on June 3, where steps being taken by the UT (Union Territory) administration to protect minorities would be discussed,” the sources confirmed.
