Jammu, May 14: “With mega internet search engine Google having added 24 languages including Dogri to its language translation tool ‘Google Translate’, now conversation in Dogri will become possible for all around the globe. This tool is going to help Dogri reach another level and become a global language”.

This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri who added that the addition of eight new Indian languages including Dogri, Sanskrit, Bhojpuri, Assamese, Mizo, Konkani, Maithili and Meiteilon (Manipuri) to Google Translation will go a long way in enabling people converse in different languages without learning them.

The move will also help Dogri speaking and Dogri writing people lay their hand on world literature and get access to all information that they need for their research or understanding. While 300 million people around the globe will be benefited with this addition of 8 Indian languages, the 3 million Dogri-speaking people in India including Jammu and Kashmir and also Himachal Pradesh besides some bordering areas of Pakistan will be benefited.

Appreciating the technological advancement, Raman Suri said that Google has Indian languages using Zero-Shot Machine Translation, a machine learning model that can learn to translate words into another language without having to see any examples. This, he added, is a miracle and will also benefit 20,000 Sanskrit speaking people across India.

He hoped that with the addition of these languages, our youngsters will feel proud of their mother tonge and will try this tool to maximum use to have access to information with respect to their needs available on global platforms like Google.
