Leh, May 13: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, today inaugurated the Advanced Skill Development Training Center at Jamyang High School in Murtsey Colony. The Training Center has been set up with support from The Art of Living, Schneider Electric Foundation India and Jaguar Foundation. Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson and Deputy Commissioner (DC), Leh, Shrikant Balsaheb Suse were present during the event.

LG Mathur thanked HH The Dalai Lama for the initiative of setting up Jamyang High School to provide education to the children from remote and backward areas of Ladakh. He also thanked The Art of Living for their support in setting up the Skill Development Training Center. He shared the plans to develop a model ITI Center in Kargil.

LG Mathur stressed the importance of skill development in the development of the nation. He stated that the subject of entrepreneurship should be a part of the school curriculum. He further stated that the trades, including electrician training, renewable energy training and plumbing, being taught at the Center are very relevant for Ladakh.

LG Mathur shared that the unemployed students from Ladakh who had undergone the training course at Sri Sri Kaushal Vikas Kendra for Renewable Energy in Bengaluru are earning well after the completion of the training. He stated that Ladakh has the potential to tap all forms of renewable energy, viz. solar, wind and geothermal, and also has huge economic potential in the primary sector.

Stating that the people of Ladakh have good natural resources for livelihood, LG Mathur said that the Administration is making efforts to exploit the full potential for entrepreneurship in all the fields. He expressed hope that the Training Center would prove beneficial for the people of Ladakh and advised the students to make full use of the Training Center.

LG Mathur distributed certificates to the students who had completed the vocational training programme on solar installation technician training.

Sri Sri Rural Development Programme Trust and Water Management & Plumbing Skill Council (WMPSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of LG Mathur and Chairman LAHDC Leh to conduct various activities, including setting up Skill Development Centers and providing capacity-building training, advocacy of water conservation policies, etc.

Earlier, Director, Jamyang High School, Ven Lobzang Samstan welcomed the guests and requested for assistance in the construction of a multipurpose hall at the school. Deepak Sharma from The Art of Living gave the vote of thanks.

LG Mathur visited the Training Center and labs and interacted with the students. Around 30 unemployed youth from Ladakh are currently undergoing training at the Training Center, shared their experiences.

Principal, Jamyang High School, Ven Lobzang Tsultim; School Trustees; Abhimanyu from Schneider Electric Foundation; faculty members from the Training Center and Jamyang High School and students were present during the event.
