DC Bandipora inspects G&B hostel, proposed land for DIET

Bandipora, March 14: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Monday visited Watrina village in Bandipora to inspect the proposed land for District Institute of Education and Training (DIET).

The Officers informed the DC about the status of the land, and updated him about the process of transfer of land to the education department.

The DC directed the officers to expedite the paperwork so that construction of the DIET complex can be initiated. He said the DIET has been running its operations from rented accommodation since its establishment despite being the backbone of the education department.

Dr Owais said that the construction will soon start and a state of art building will come up for DIET with all modern facilities available in the complex.

He directed Tehsildar Bandipora for removing encroachments, if any, at the proposed site for smooth construction works.

Later, the DC also inspected the ongoing construction work on Gujjar Bakerwal (G&B) Hostel at Watpora Bandipora.

The officers informed the DC about the status of work. Dr Owais directed the executing agency to expedite the work with improvement in weather so that the same can be put in service for the marginalised community especially students.

He said the hostel will ease the problems of students of Gujjar and Bakerwal community adding that the students from these communities have to travel long distances to reach district headquarters for education, coaching and other purposes. He said the hostel will provide accommodation to such students and aspirants so that precious time is saved.

Dr Owais said the hostel will be equipped with all modern facilities including a reading room, round the clock internet facility, computer lab and library and will act as an education hub for the people.

The DC was accompanied by officers of the Education and Revenue Department during the visit.
