Budgam, March 08: Celebrating International Women’s Day, a daylong programme was today organised at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall in Budgam, where scores of women were felicitated for their exemplary work in different fields.

The programme was organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office, ICDS Project Budgam, Education and Health department.

Principal District and Sessions Judge/ Chairman DLSA Budgam, Mohammad Ashraf Malik was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he highlighted the role of women in the lives of people and their contribution towards society.

He emphasised that women need to be confident in empowering themselves as they are the ones who shape the society.

Akramullah Tak, ADDC Budgam also highlighted the role and contribution of women in the world.

The other speakers included Tahir Saleem SSP Budgam, Syed Amin Chief Education Officer Budgam, Tajamul Hussain CMO Budgam, Dr. Farhana Asgar District Social Welfare Officer Budgam, Huma Mir Principal Chadoora and Sana Zehra (Student).

Dr. Nisar Ahmad ADC Budgam presented the vote of thanks and Ms. Fozia Paul Sub-Judge/Secretary District Legal Services Authority Budgam conducted the programme and gave statistics of the work done by the DLSA Budgam during the previous year exclusively towards women. In addition, scholarships worth Rs. 15 lakhs were distributed amongst four female students under Beti Anmol Hai Scheme by the Chief Guest.

CEO Budgam later on distributed electronic gadgets worth Rs 20 lakhs to needy students.

Moreover, various stalls were set up by female entrepreneurs including Handicrafts, Child Department, Paper Mashi, Education Department, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Social Welfare Department and District Legal Services Authority Budgam, wherein their work was displayed and appreciated by the Chief Guest. The staff from MSK, OSC, JJB and CWC also participated in the programme with full enthusiasm.

The certificates of appreciation were awarded to the deserving females of all departments of district Budgam including District Legal Services Authority Budgam, Social Welfare Department, District Administration, meritorious female students, ICDS, National Commission for Women, DCPO, JJB Members, etc in addition to this, a certificate of appreciation was also awarded by the Chief Guest to International Wushu Championship Sadia Tariq who won gold medal in Moscow Wushu Stars Championship.
