Jammu Feb 24 :- Involve common Weavers, Artisans in Departmental events, stated Weavers and Artisans Cell of BJP.

Cell Convenor Bal Krishen Koul in a statement, said that the way Directorate must invite and involve common weavers and artisans in their events which are meant for their welfare which is being not done as it seems. This pattern, he said compels one to ask that if the Directorate really cares for weavers and artisans.

Bal Krishen Koul said that almost every time we can see same persons and staff of the directorate as audience in a function, which is infact an event for common weavers and artisans and added that after strenuous efforts and persuasion to the concerned authorities in Government of India, the Weavers and Artisans of Jammu got counter of weaver’s service centre of Ministry of Textiles, at Janipur, Jammu.

He shared that the Director Handloom and Handicraft today formally opened Handicraft office at Janipur.

Koul said that the weaver’s service centre is an important centre for weavers and artisans. The Govt of India has mandated it to provide technical support and training to the weavers and artisans. It trains weavers and artisans in designing, dying and provides accessories needed for weaving. The service centre organizes expos for weavers and artisans produce. The weavers service centre has sufficient funds to discharge these functions. The Director, Handloom and Handicraft, Its joint Director, Deputy Director, Assistant Director weavers service centre Srinagar and the employees of the Handloom and Handicraft Directorate along with a few weavers and artisans were present at the time of opening of this counter. He said that only certain were present at the time of opening of this counter, while the general weavers and artisans were not invited.

Inviting only limited numbers of weavers and artisans on opening day will deprive many other common weavers and artisans of their share. This is injustice and discrimination with them which can lead to corruption as they deal with limited members of aspirants and under the table deals can become possible.

Bal Krishen Koul further said that there is need that all the weavers and artisans of Jammu are invited on such functions to make them aware of the functioning and service of the weavers service centre so that they can know about its existence and it role and functioning.
