Jammu, Feb 17: Shiv Sena J&K unit today demanded the Jammu airport should be named after Maharaja Hari Singh, last ruling king of the princely state of J&K. it also sought the Srinagar Airport should also be named after Professor Balraj Madhok.
Addressing media persons here today, Manish Sahni, President J&K Shiv Sena said that the Jammu Airport should be named after Maharaja Hari Singh. He said that Maharaja Hari Singh’s reign heralded a sea of reforms and people friendly policies which endeared him to all his subjects, irrespective of class, religion and gender.
Reiterating the demand for a state holiday on the Maharaja’s birthday. Sahni said that the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha had assured to declare a holiday on the Maharaja’s birthday, which was not being fulfilled. He said that declaring the aforesaid holiday and naming Jammu Airport would be a great tribute to Maharaja as well as regard and respect for the sentiments of Dogras.
Besides, he urged the J&K Government to name the Srinagar Airport after Professor Balraj Madhok. He said that Saraswati’s son Professor Balraj Madhok, had protected Jammu and Kashmir, especially the Srinagar airport by his exemplary efforts. Sahni recalled that at the time of J&K’s accession to India, Madhok guarded the Srinagar airport along with about 200 volunteers to secure the Srinagar airport from tribal attacks, due to which Indian Army aircraft could land safely at Srinagar airport to save Kashmir from being annexed by Pakistan.
On this occasion vice President Sanjeev Kohli , president youth wing Binni Mahajan , Kamghar wing president Raj Singh were present.
