Jammu, January 25: National Voters’ Day was today celebrated in Educational Institutions across Jammu Division by holding pledge taking ceremonies and other activities.

January 25 is celebrated as the National Voters’ Day to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India in 1950.

The objective is to increase the enrolment of voters to make the universal adult suffrage a reality.

GWC Parade: The Government Women College Parade observed National Voters’ Day.   Principal Dr. SP Sarswat along with teaching and non-teaching staff and the students of college participated in the celebration of the Day with zeal.

HOD Political Science, Neena Kumari initiated the proceedings and administered the National Voters’ Day pledge both in English and Hindi to create awareness among the participants about the importance of registration of votes and ensure their active participation in election for stronger democracy in the county.

GDC Sunderbani: Government Degree College Sunderbani organized a series of activities under the supervision of Principal Prof. (Dr) Vandana Gupta.  The NSS unit of the college organised a pledge ceremony in which staff members and students took voters’ day pledge. The pledge was read by prof. Sheraz Kousser.  The faculty members also threw light on the value of vote that makes the citizens the real rulers for the governance of the country.

The Department of Political science also organised an online lecture cum discussion Programme. The theme of the programme was “Voters’ Participation   and electoral Process”.

The main purpose of this lecture cum discussion programme was to educate the students about the importance of voting for a healthy democracy. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Mukesh Kumar Sharma HOD (Political Science).

GDC MARH: National Voters Day was celebrated at Government Degree College Marh by organising an online lecture. Prof. Aekta Gupta supervised the event.  In her address, she focused on Participative Democracy to make the Political System more and more inclusive.

A detailed lecture was delivered by Prof. Sachin K Bhagat on the importance, history and goals of National Voters’ Day. He focused on India’s history and the growth of representative politics that evolved from the 19th to 21st Century.

Programme was conducted by NSS PO, Prof. Satish Kumar and Prof. Sachin Bhagat. Prof. Anita Kumari, Prof. Ashu Jolly, Prof. Anjana Chib, Dr. Shakun Sharma and other staff, Students of NSS Unit and College Presidium were also present.

GPGCW GANDHINAGAR: The Department of Political Science, Padma Shri Padma Sachdeva Government P.G College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, in collaboration with IQAC, celebrated the National Voters’ Day to commemorate the establishment of the Election Commission of India.

Event coordinator Dr. Pooja Charak, Head Department of Political Science, read the Voters pledge, wherein all the staff members and students joined her.

Resource person, Amit Kumar Sharma, Assistant Professor Political Science GDC Bishnah, highlighted the importance of the voters and also threw light on the historical importance of the day.

The program was held under the patronage of College Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Nagari. She hailed the Election Commission of India, Govt. of India for celebrating National Voters Day to make all the citizens of India aware of their Voting rights.

GDC JINDRAH: National Voters’ Day was observed by Government Degree College Jindrah with great fervour. An online programme was organised by the Department of Political science under the guidance of principal of College, Prof. Dr. Rajshree Dhar. A pledge ceremony was held through virtual mode where all Staff members and students joined to take the National Voters’ Day pledge. Besides, a slogan writing Competition on the theme “Voter as a Game Changer in Democracy” was organised to spread awareness among young voters about the significance of Each and Every vote in Elections.

Students of different semesters participated enthusiastically and spread thoughtful messages regarding voting and power of citizens as voters. Few students also prepared short videos to disseminate the message of freeing the process of vote casting from the influences of caste, creed and religion.
