Srinagar, Jan 22 : Stating that the security situation has improved, Home Minister Amit Shah Saturday said that the Assembly elections in J&K will be held after delimitation and the statehood will be restored once the situation becomes normal. He, however, said that the militancy related incidents have reduced in the UT.
The Home Minister of India was virtually addressing on the occasion of the launch of the Good Governance Index in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
On the occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah as per news agency— said that the move is aimed at making a delivery-oriented government to benefit the people of J&K. “It will be monitored at the district level. Numbering will depict work that is required to be done. Rankings of each district will be released to give an idea about all that needed to be done. This move will help each district to work on the targets to be achieved,” Shah said.
Highlighting the achievements, the Home Minister said that the number of assembly seats in the Jammu region will increase from 37 to 43 and that in Kashmir from 46 to 47. “This will raise the number of assembly seats in J&K from 107 to 114,” he said.
Talking about the security situation, the Home Minister said that the Militancy-related incidents have reduced by 40 per cent in the region and killings have come down by 57 per cent compared to the past figures depicting the normalcy in J&K and it depends on the good governance and administration serving the people.
He said that in the last two years, all the benefits and schemes from the central government have reached the people of Jammu and Kashmir directly since Prime Minister Modi led government is committed to facilitating people.
The Home Minister said that during his visit to Kashmir recently he told the youth there to be part of peace-building and prosperity since the region has great tourism potential and visitors from across the globe can be attracted but some political leaders of the valley are making such statements that cause damage to the tourism sector.
“I want to tell all those politicians that all such attempts won’t work since a record number of tourists have visited Kashmir in the cold season and it’ll continue in times to come. It’s quite evident that Kashmir youth have a significant chance to earn a livelihood from the tourism sector,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements further, the Home Minister said that AIIMS and other institutions have been given to J&K apart from medical and Polytechnic colleges.
“All those students who were forced due to the absence of facilities to go to Pakistan and other parts of the globe to become a doctor are now able to fulfill their dreams here only,” he said. “”25,000 youth have got employment under JKSSB recruitment examinations and apart from that more than 5-lakh youth will get jobs as approved by PM Modi. Rs 12,000 crore investment MoU has been signed by the J&K government and around Rs 50,000 crore investment will come to the region.”
The Home Minister while talking about the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and Kashmir in particular said that they must come forward with the ideas of PM Modi towards peace and prosperity of the region.
He also informed that the budget for the region has been upgraded from 9,000 crore rupees to 21,000 crore rupees which is higher than the national average.
“Gulmarg, Patnitop, Pahalgam, and Srinagar are hosting a good rush of tourists this winter season, and the graph of tourists has increased by large over the years in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. “People of Jammu and Kashmir should not fall into the trap of lies of some leaders for political gains rather they must question them for spreading the fake narratives.”
The Home Minister said that the Democracy in Jammu and Kashmir has reached the lowest level. “For more progress and prosperity, peace is a must for the same faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi is important,” he said.
About the democratic process in J&K, the Home Minister said that the delimitation has already begun and the assembly elections will be held very early following which the statehood will be restored.
“I have assured the house of parliament that the statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir and it’ll be done once the situation becomes normal,” the Home Minister said.
He further said that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir must work on their future and concentrate on prosperity—(KNO)
