Bandipora, December 28: The Chief Medical Office Bandipora and District Administration Bandipora on Tuesday organised a day-long awareness programme regarding Aids as part of the month long awareness mission regarding the disease.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Zahoor Ahmad Mir inaugurated the programme while Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, District Health Officer, Doctors, Paramedics and other staff members of the Department were present on the occasion.

During the programme experts delivered lectures regarding consequences, prevention and control of AIDS.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC threw light on the theme of the programme. He said we need to make efforts to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward ending the HIV epidemic.

He said, we need strength more than ever to beat the colliding epidemics of HIV and COVID-19. He said people’s cooperation is essential which enables society to get rid of the colliding epidemics of HIV and COVID-19.

Highlighting the importance of the day, the Chief Medical Officer Bandipora said that the day is celebrated worldwide to renew our efforts to save the lives of patients suffering from this dreaded disease.

He said the day reminds us of our duties towards the AIDS patients and we have to adopt a sympathetic and human approach towards such patients and encourage them to lead a normal life, adding that these patients need our sympathy and we must treat them with a positive approach.

The CMO said that observing only one day in the name of AIDS is not sufficient, but throughout the year the fight must continue.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Health Officer Bandipora called for launching a strong movement against HIV/AIDS with the active involvement of various stakeholders of the society, adding that this cureless disease is consuming the lives of large number of people, irrespective of sex, age and class worldwide.
