Anantnag, December 23: Under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla, a meeting of District Level Committee for implementation of Forest Rights Act was held at Dakbanglow Khanabal, here today.
The DDC while checking the progress of the implementation of the Forest Right Act in the jurisdiction of SDMs emphasized upon the concerned officers to expedite the process for moving the application of eligible persons to get the benefits of the Act.
Dr Singla said that awareness needs to be held in this regard so that genuine cases can be processed under the provisions of the act.
The committee processed 17 claims out of which 16 have been approved. Of these 16, 14 are individual claims while 2 claims are for community rights. It is in place to mention that 31 claims have been approved so far in the district.
The concerned implementing officers while informing the meeting said that the FRCs have been established in all panchayats and the process of identifying eligible cases is underway. They emphasized that cooperation in this regard is needed by the PRI members and committee members to implement the Act in letter and spirit. Some outstanding claims were also discussed during the meeting.
The DDC emphasized that sub divisional committees must handle FRA claims on priority and sensitize field functionaries regarding expedient processing of any claims. It was decided that regular DLC meeting will be held to fast track the processing of claims
The meeting was attended by ADC Gulzar Ahmad, ACD, SDMs, DFOs, ALC, and PRI members.
