Samba, December 16: To mark the ‘Swarnim Vijay Diwas’ the Celebration of India’s Victory Over Pakistan in 1971 War, the 7th Battalion, of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles, in collaboration with District Administration Samba, today organised a marathon event for border youths at Ramgarh Tehsil of district Samba.
In the event, 121 boys and 69 girls from adjoining villages participated in the 12 KM and 5 KM marathons respectively.
Among the participants, Hansraj, Balvinder Singh and Sahil Choudhary begged 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively, while in girls Manta Sharma, Shanu Devi and Taniya begged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively. The winners were presented with cash prize of Rs 15000, Rs10000 and Rs 5000 besides certification, caps and medals for all participants.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner Samba, Suram Chand Sharma, in presences of Colonel Abhayraj Galander, flagged off the marathon of border youth from Government Higher Secondary Ramgarh where different cultural programmes by NCC cadets and singing with live band performance by the Boulders stole the show.
Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Commissioner said that to mark 50th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan, a series of events were orgnaised under banner of operation sadhbhavana and mission youth including coaching classes for military schools, Bharat Darshan tour programme, counselling and interactive session with Army officers, KNOW YOUR ARMY programmes etc..
Among others District Information Officer, Ajay Sharma principal Higher Secondary School Ramgarh, Ashwani besides Army Officers and locals were also present.
