Rajouri, December 14 :- On specific inputs from reliable sources of the Armed Forces, Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police in a joint operation in Surankot area in Poonch district have killed a wanted LeT terrorist who was a resident of Pakistan.

The killed terrorist has been identified as Abu Zarara while one of his accomplices (maybe two) is on the run and is being chased by the forces in an ensuing search & destroy operation in the dense forests in Behramgala area under the jurisdiction of Surankot police station.

Pertinent to mention that Abu Zarara was the eighth terrorist killed by the Army, J&K Police, and Paramilitary Forces in Rajouri – Poonch districts.

Recently a dreaded terrorist guide (ex-serviceman of Pakistan Army) was eliminated on the Line of Control (LoC) by the army in Bhimber Gali sector.

One Ak-47 Rifle, four filled magazines, one hand grenade, biscuit packets & some Indian currency was recovered from the possession of the slain terrorist.

Reliable sources said that the slain terrorists Abu Zarara was trained/motivated by his handlers to revive militancy in both the districts of Rajouri & Poonch.

The presence of the group was detected after July this year and since then the group was on the radar of the Security Forces.

After the presence of the group in a dense forest was established, Indian Army along with J&K police launched the operation on December 13 and in the morning hours on Tuesday the contact was established with the terrorist group.

“The terrorists attempted to escape while opening fire at the security personnel. However, the fire was retaliated and in the ensuing fire, one terrorist was neutralised. He has been identified as Abu Zarara” said Lt Col Devender Anand, PRO Defence, and Jammu.

As the group was operating in this area for the last few months, their involvement in the encounter at Nar Khas forest (in Mendher tehsil) can’t be ruled out in which a JCO and three soldiers had attained martyrdom on October 14.

The elimination of Pakistani terrorist associated with LeT outfit was the result of joint efforts of the Indian Army & J&K Police and the success will boost the morale of the Forces engaged in the counter-terrorist operations.
