Jammu, December 3: The School Education Department today observed World Disability Day by organizing a series of events across Jammu and Kashmir under Samagra Shiksha.

Pertinently, inclusive education is one of the components of flagship programme ‘Samagra Shiksha’ under which educational as well as financial support is being provided to Children with Special Needs.

During the event, variety of cultural programmes were organized in all the districts through respective Chief Education Offices wherein large number of Children with Special Needs participated and displayed their talent.

A programme was organized at Jammu district wherein Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Deep Raj, chaired the event with Chief Education Officer Jammu, Coordinator-Inclusive Education (Samagra Shiksha), Dr. Ravinder Jangral, Zonal Education Officers of Jammu, teachers, students and other officers of School Education Department also present on the occasion.

Project Director interacted with Children with Special Needs as well as Special Educators during the event.

Later, a UT level webinar was organized on the theme “Creating an Inclusive Environment for Sustainable Society” in which Professor Vishwa Raksha, Head Department of Sociology and Director, Centre for Women Studies (JU) and Diksha Nargotra, Faculty Centre for Women Studies were the key Resource Persons.

Professor Raksha spoke on the theme “Challenges faced by special need people especially during Covid: the path ahead” while Diksha Nargotra conducted session on “Career Opportunities for CWSN”.

Project Director also briefed the audience about significance of the day and stressed upon all the stakeholders to take appropriate steps for uplift of Children with Special Needs in a strategic way.

More than 1500 participants joined the programme through live stream.
