Reasi Admin organises Drug Demand Reduction awareness camp

Reasi, December 03: District Administration Reasi today organized a Mega Drug demand reduction awareness programme for students here at Auditorium of District Administrative Complex.

Deputy Commissioner Charandeep Singh was the chief guest.

The main aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the student community about the drug menace and encourage them to contribute in the eradication campaign against this menace.

On the occasion, District Social Welfare Officer Gulshan Kumar welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the catastrophic effect of drug abuse on individuals and the society as a whole. He stressed on the need to take effective measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district.

Addressing the gathering, Charandeep Singh advised the students not to indulge in drug abuse and other social evils and instead be role models in the field of education, sports and other activities.

Highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, Charandeep Singh said that it starts merely as amusement but ends up becoming a drug addict.

“The young generation is the most-affected section of drug addiction that needs to be eradicated completely from the society,” Charandeep Singh said seeking cooperation of all stakeholders.

The DC said that the District Administration would lend a helping hand to anyone who was feeling stressed and ensure that youth instead engage in sports activities.

Charandeep Singh appealed to the parents to keep track of their children for keeping them safe from the menace of drug addiction.

Expert Speakers  Dr. Shanaz Bhatt, Dr. Anjum, Dr. Usha, Dalip Singh underscored the need to adopt a multipronged strategy involving health, police, education, judiciary, social welfare and research scholars to make “The Nation Drug free”.      The event also witnessed Nukkad Nataks on the de-addiction of drugs and on Divyang, staged by Shadab AKM group, Tribal Hostel Talwara and a Nukkad Natak on Poshan by the artists of the Information Department.

On the occasion, certificates were given away to Youth trained by Social Welfare Department Reasi in different trades like Driving etc to increase their employability, while Sewing Machines were distributed among the female beneficiaries to enable them to earn by cutting and Tailoring skill.

The programme concluded by singing of the National Anthem.
