Jammu, October 25: Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak, today inaugurated “One Month Training Programme on Fruit and Vegetables Preservation” here at village Suketar, Dansal, wherein more than 100 women are participating.
The Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu S.Sarabjeet Singh welcomed the Director Horticulture Jammu and made the women farmers aware about the centrally and state sponsored schemes of the department.
Addressing the women farmers, Ram Savak urged them to come forward and avail incentives under different schemes of the department for setting up of small fruit and vegetables processing units. He asked them to form Self Help Groups (SHGs), associated with the Horticulture department. He assured that the department will help SHGs in setting up Micro Food Processing units for the value addition of fruit products under the PMFME scheme, a landmark initiative of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, which will help them in enhancing the family income. He asked them to avail the benefits of this one month long training programme on preservation of fruits and vegetables.
Earlier, MCC Jammu, Anil Chibber imparted training to the women participants in the fruits and vegetable processing to convert these into value added products such as Jam, Pickle, Preserve, Candy, Sauces, Squash etc.
Social worker Ritika Trehan also appealed to the women farmers to get training in the fruit & vegetable processing and set up small processing units with the assistance of the department and also thanked the department for providing such training in our remote areas.
Among others, DLSMS (Pomo) Sandeep Gupta, Sarpanch Panchayat Suketar, Kuldeep Sharma and officials of the department were present on the occasion.
