COVID-19: J&K records biggest spike of this year as 271 cases test positive

Srinagar, Mar 27 : The Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir continue to rise as 271 fresh positive cases, highest ever in the ongoing year so far, were reported on Saturday pushing the number of active cases near 1,813 which otherwise were less than 600 a few weeks before.

One more death was reported in last 24 hours taking toll of deaths to 1,985 in UT, and active cases continues to increase and recovery rate decreases with each passing day. 271 fresh positive cases reported on Saturday pushed the tally of positive cases to 129,684. The fresh spike in cases comes just a day after J&K UT reported over 200 cases of virus.

Of the exact number of 129,684 cases, 77,023 are from Kashmir and 52,661 from Jammu division. Officials told  that among 271 new cases, 196 belong to Kashmir division while as 75 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 77,023 including 74,431 recoveries and 1,253 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 52,661 including 51,455 recoveries and 732 deaths.

The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,813 including 1,339 from Kashmir division and 474 from Jammu division.

With 138 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 125,886 which is 97.07 percent of the total cases.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 118 from Srinagar, 42 from Baramulla, 19 from Budgam, 03 from Pulwama,   06 from Kupwara, 02 from Anantnag, 03 from Bandipora, 00 from Ganderbal, 01 from Kulgam and 02 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 75 from Jammu division include 56 from Jammu, 01 from Udhampur, 00 from Rajouri, 02 from Doda, 07 from Kathua, 03 from Samba, 00 from Kishtwar, 02 from Poonch, 04 from Ramban and 00 from Reasi,” officials disclosed.

As per officials figures, 28,531 positive cases including 469 deaths and 27,248 recoveries are from Srinagar, 8,658 including 178 deaths and 8,259 recoveries are from Baramulla, 8,123 including 7,872 recoveries and 120 deaths are from Budgam, 5,951 including 5,805 recoveries and 92 deaths are from Pulwama, 5,764 including 97 deaths and 5,635 recoveries are from Kupwara, 5,136 including 5,026 recoveries and 94 deaths are from Anantnag, 4,747 cases including 4,662 and 62 deaths are from Bandipora, 4,700 including 4,644 recoveries and 47 deaths are from Ganderbal, 2,770 including 2,701 recoveries and 54 deaths are from Kulgam and 2,643 including 2,579 recoveries and 40 deaths are from Shopian.

In Jammu division, 25,740 including 24,988 recoveries and 379 deaths are from Jammu district, 4,340 including 4,267 recoveries and 57 deaths are from Udhampur, 3,890 including 3,824 recoveries and 55 deaths are from Rajouri, 3,454 including 3,377 recoveries and 64 deaths are from Doda, 3,294 including 3,222 recoveries and 53 deaths are from Kathua, 2,856 including 2,802 recoveries and 41 deaths are from Samba, 2,740 including 2,717 recoveries and 22 deaths are from Kishtwar, 2,540 including 2,501 recoveries and 24 deaths are from Poonch, 2,147 including 2,115 recoveries and 21 deaths are from Ramban and 1,660 including 1,642 recoveries and 16 deaths are from Reasi.

As per the daily information bulletin 1,475,243 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 27,174 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 1,813 persons are in isolation.

According to the bulletin, 1,323,433 persons have completed surveillance period and 120,838 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 5,918,723 samples are available. Out of 5,918,723 the number of samples tested negative stands at 5,789,039 while as 129,684 have tested positive, among them 1,681 persons are active, 125,886 persons have recovered and 1,985 persons have died.
