Leh, March 20: A delegation led by Member Parliament Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, today called upon Hon’ble Minister of Defence (MOD), Rajnath Singh, at New Delhi.
The delegation apprised the Defence Minister of critical issues of border regions in the Union Territory of Ladakh and presented a memorandum seeking immediate intervention.
The points mentioned in the memorandum included:
Uninterrupted movement of nomads/grazers according to their traditional cyclic movement to different pasture lands along borders.
Grazing Permission in Border areas for farmers of Turtuk village and adjoining areas
Permission for developmental construction activities at zero-border villages.
Permission to install telecommunication towers at border villages on priority.
Early construction of border roads connecting border villages.
The status of the strategic Nimoo-Padum-Darcha Road.
Preference for local porter/labours in the Army
Enhancement of wages of porter at Siachen glacier and issuance of new clothing for the porter.
24/7 electricity connections/ grid connection to border areas.
Continuation of Defence Labour Procurement Department (DLPD) services in Ladakh.
Permission to open new tourist routes in border areas and promotion of border tourism
Reservation/special quota for unemployed youth from villages at Line of Control (LoC) in the Army & Police.
Opening of the areas situated at LOC for Tourist to promote Border Tourism in the district.
Construction of bunkers in the areas adjacent to the border.
The revival of Sadbhavana Programme for Leh and Kargil.
Nubra Airport to be included in UDAAN Scheme
Issuance of notification for making Siachen Glacier functional for tourists.
Enhancement in the wages of porters and ponies serving at Siachen Glacier I, II, III and Hanifuddin Sub-Sector.
Land compensation for Army-occupied land
Sadhbhavna activities to be revived in Nubra valley.
Relaxation of age up to 60 years for porters.
Completion of Turtuk-Hanu Road.
Issuance of Special Identity Cards for inhabitants of border villages of Turtuk Block.
Hon’ble Minister of Defence (MoD), Rajnath Singh, gave a patient hearing to all the issues and demands projected by the official delegation and assured them of early redressal of all the genuine issues of border areas of UT Ladakh on priority.
The delegation appreciated steps taken by the Govt of India in handling border tensions in recent time.
