Leh, March 20: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Leh, Shrikant Suse today called a meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) to review the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Leh district.
DC Leh is the head of the DSWM responsible for the overall implementation of JJM at the district-level. DC Leh Shrikant Suse reviewed the status of functional household tap connections (FHTCs) in different villages of Leh district from District Superintending Engineer (DSE), Leh, Pardeep Kumar Sharma.
Speaking during the meeting, DSE Leh apprised DC Leh Shrikant Suse of the challenges faced by them in the completion of 6293 FHTCs in different villages of Leh district.
DC Leh Shrikant Suse exhorted DSE Leh to expedite the DPR of various schemes under JJM for 2021-22 by the PHE Department at the earliest.
Reviewing the progress of the 100-day campaign initiated by Hon’ble Lt Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, to provide assured potable water supply to schools and Anganwadi centres in UT Ladakh, DC Leh directed DSE Leh to share the status of potable drinking water supply in schools of Leh district with the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Leh.
DC Leh Shrikant Suse asked Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Leh, Dr Motup Dorje, to provide the list of health centres that require potable drinking water to the PHE Department.
During the discussion on water laboratory and the accreditation of drinking water testing laboratories from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Assistant Engineer (AE) from PHE, Urgain Nurboo, apprised DC Leh of procurement of all the equipment for the lab by April-end and the proposed training of their staff for NABL accreditation laboratory from April 5 to 8.
DC Leh Shrikant Suse also impressed upon CEO Leh to organise painting competition and debates to raise awareness among people starting March 22 on World Water Day. He also directed DSE Leh to organise field testing demonstrations during Gram Sabhas on World Water Day.
Keeping in mind the increase in the number of complaint from the public regarding the hardness of drinking water, DC Leh Shrikant Suse directed DSE Leh to include a proposal for the installation of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant at Leh.
