KARGIL FEBRUARY 10, 2021: As a part of various programmes being held in connection with the 32nd National Road Safety Month, Motor Vehicles Department Ladakh and ARTO Kargil organized a road safety awareness program for women and specially-abled persons at Tourist Facilitation Center Kargil here today.
District Programme Officer (DPO) ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo, District Social Welfare Officer Kargil Aga Syed Jamal, CDPO Tai Suru Parveen Akhtar, CDPO Gulnar Banoo, ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain, good number of Anganwadi Workers and students were present on the occasion.
DPO ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo on the occasion said that using public transport is a good option but favorable conditions should be made available for women so that they can travel without fear and reservation of seats should also be ensured. She stressed on the Anganwadi Workers to spread the message of road safety throughout the district in the larger benefit of the masses.
District Social Welfare Officer Aga Syed Jamal while speaking on the occasion said that we need to get properly acquainted with the rules of road safety and it is due to our ignorance that issues arise regarding road safety, in which both the drivers and pedestrians are responsible, adding both should know their responsibilities.
ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain said the purpose of this awareness programme was to discuss about the road safety awareness for women, specially-abled persons as well as senior citizens as they face several problems while commuting through public transport. He further said that there is a need to bring awareness for providing reserved seats to women and specially-abled persons in public transport.
A power point presentation was also given by the ARTO, Kargil on road safety awareness for women and specially-abled persons.He also enlightened the participants about the importance of road safety and stressed on the importance of the usage of public transport to lessen pollution and traffic jams.
Parveen Akhtar CDPO said that this is the first time in the history of Kargil that a workshop is organized on road safety for womenu. She said that women do face many problems owing to which their reservation in public transport should be ensured, adding that a lot of awareness needs to be done on this front.
CDPO Gulnar Banoo also stressed for the need of mass level awareness to ensure proper reservation for women and specially-abled persons in public transport.
