Leh, 31 Jan 2021: The The Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson inaugurated Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization programme at SNM Hospital, Leh this morning. He also flagged-off mobile teams which were sent to various parts of the district to ensure no child is left without anti-polio drops.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Gyalson said that this is a pleasing moment for the entire nation that WHO has already certified India as a polio-free country but because of the existence of this dreadful disease in few of our neighbouring countries we are starting this campaign again from today onwards. He also said that a healthy child leads to a healthy society. He urged all Ladakhi parents to bring their children of the targeted age group to the Anti Polio Booths and give them anti-polio drops for their secure future.

CEC Gyalson appreciated Health Department for carrying out the Immunization programme across the district in a systematic way giving added focus to cover the children in snowbound areas and hoped for a 100% coverage under the programme.

Leh district has a target population of 9894 children of the age group of 0-5 years which includes 9121 locals and 773 non-locals. To ensure the fullest coverage of these children under the IPPI programme, the health department has set up 377 IPPI booths with the deployment of 68 Supervisors and 18 mobile teams. Also to have a close monitor for 100% achievement under the IPPI programme, 76 vehicles have been engaged.
