Jammu/Srinagar | 24-Nov: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah’s name has surfaced in the illegal land mutations case under the Roshni Act scheme. In a fresh list displayed on the website of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s name is listed on top with 7 Kanal and 7 marla of encroached land in Jammu’s Sunjawan area.
Reacting to his name surfacing in the Roshni scam list made public by the J&K administration, Farooq Abdullah said, “Not only my house, there are hundreds of others in the area. I will not react to this as they just want to disturb Farooq Abdullah. Let them do it.”
After the news was widely discussed on media, National conference reacted to it by sharing a tweet on their official twitter handle.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court recently ordered a CBI probe into a case of massive encroachment of government land under the Roshni scheme.
The CBI has registered three separate cases for alleged land grab in Jammu and Kashmir in collusion with government officials, in which a secretary-ranked officer at the Centre is also under scanner.
It has been alleged that the land grabbing by undeserving elements defeated the purpose of Jammu and Kashmir State Lands (vesting of ownership rights to the Occupants) Act, 2001 aimed at generation of revenue for undertaking development works.
The Jammu divisional commissioner in a third advisory has directed deputy commissioners to cancel all mutations of land transferred under the Roshni scheme and submit details.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration on November 4 had directed deputy commissioners of Jammu division to cancel all mutations of illegally encroached land, including those under the Roshni scheme, from revenue records and upload details of encroachers on websites. (With Inputs from PTI)
