EARTH NEWS SERVICE |s_635820512743811900_MehboobaNew Delhi, Dec 14 |15: Member Parliament and PDP President, Ms Mehbooba Mufti today sought the intervention of the Union Minister for Human Resource Development (MHRD) in the effective implementation of UGC scheme regarding admission of J&K students in the recognized colleges and universities of the country under supernumerary quota. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Ms Mehbooba said as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, in addition to the migrant quota, admissions to two supernumerary seats each have to be made by all the recognized universities of the country from amongst the general category students of Jammu and Kashmir. She said of late, as per reports, most of the universities have started refusing admissions to the students from J&K under this quota. She sought the intervention of the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Ms Smriti Irani in the matter so that the students from J&K continue to benefit from this scheme. Earlier, in its written reply to a question raised by Ms Mehbooba in the Lok Sabha on the issue, MHRD said, following the reports that some colleges and universities were refusing admission to the students from J&K under supernumerary seats, the UGC issued fresh directive to all the universities to admit the eligible students from J&K under the supernumerary quota. MHRD said that during last year, 20 representations were received from students of J&K regarding refusal of admissions by the Delhi University Colleges under supernumerary quota. The Ministry said till date 406 admissions of students from J&K have been made under supernumerary quota through centralized counseling process under the Special Scholarship Scheme.
